The K-State Singers Showchoir was established in 1954 as one of the first show choirs in the nation. Since that time, the group has established a reputation as one of the most talented and highly regarded show choirs in the country.

Each spring, a new group of performers are selected from about thirty applicants who are interested in music and representing Kansas State. Once the group has been selected, the sixteen singers and three to four instrumentalists meet a week before classes start in August to begin learning their show.

Throughout the group's lifetime, there have been over 50 different arrays of performers, giving each year a new and unique twist. Each year, lifelong friendships are formed and the members share laughter, tears and memories they cherish forever.

Each member of the K-State Singers is a student at Kansas State; however, none of them are music majors. They simply perform out of their love for music, the pride they get in representing Kansas State University and the "kicks" they get, traveling endless miles across the beautiful, breathtaking landscape of Kansas.

Throughout the course of the year, the K-State Singers perform approximately 40 shows. While a majority of the tour stops occur close to Kansas, tours have taken the group all over the world with international appearances at three world's fairs and seven USO Tours. The Singers have also performed in Los Angeles, Orlando and most recently in Nashville where the group participated in the Showstoppers Collegiate Showcase in 1998. Tour stops have also landed the performers in other large cities throughout the United States.

Currently, the Singers rehearse ten hours a week in McCain Hall. Back in 1954 when the group was young, the Singers called Nichols Hall home. However, when fire destroyed the historic Kansas State landmark in 1969, the Singers as well as the rest of the Music Department relocated to McCain.

Since its induction in 1954, the K-State Singers have entertained thousands of audiences. With the devotion of the members and the director, the Singers continue to draw large audiences wherever they perform. Generations past and future will hear the music, see the entertainment and feel the elegance, as the Kansas State Singers continue to develop and expand in a world of opportunity.
