                                        Non-Music Majors

                                        Any K-State student can participate in all the choral ensembles. Students wishing to pursue a degree in music have the following options available.

                                        Undergraduate Degrees 


                                        Bachelor of Music Music Education
                                         

                                        is intended for those student musicians who plan to teach music in elementary, middle or secondary schools. It also prepares one for graduate work.  A majority of music students concentrate in this rewarding and important career program.

                                        Bachelor of Music Performance 
                                        is structured for those students who wish to emphasize and prepare for a performance career or for private or college level teaching.
                                                 
                                        Bachelor of Arts Degree in Music 

                                        follows the broadest aspect of a college education with an emphasis in music. The student entering this program will be expected to take more courses in liberal arts than those in either the BACHELOR OF MUSIC or the BACHELOR OF MUSIC EDUCATION programs. 

                                        Minor in Music requires 20-21 hours of music courses.

                                        Graduate Degrees


                                        Master of Music • Choral Conducting 

                                        The Choral Conducting MM degree requires residency (classes taken during the academic year) See below for application information.
                                             
                                        Master of Music • Music Education
                                        The Music Education MM is designed to be completed in 3 summers with no residency requirement.

                                        Prospective students in the Choral Conducting focus will need to complete an initial application including a DVD of conducting rehearsal and performance.  Based on application materials, students will be invited to do an on-campus audition with a choral ensemble to determine acceptance into the degree path.
                                        Graudate students in Choral Conducting receive:     
                                        • considerable conducting opportunities with a choir each semester
                                        • podium time to prepare a final recital with the KSU Concert Choir
                                        • weekly conducting lessons
                                        • participation in planning and development of a Choral Program 
                                        Graduate Assistantships are available to well qualified individuals based on the application and audition materials.  Assistantships cover the tuition costs as well as provide a stipend.
